Okay TCGers! Time to start cracking! Admin Squeak here to get some gears cranking.
Over about the past year, my little brother and I have had discussions about the rules of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters & Pokémon TCG. We both play the online and video gamer’s formats but it seems that the rules were constantly changing, even when they based them off the anime. So, I decided to look up the official website for the “Rule of Thumb” of both card battles. This go around I’ll be focusing on the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG aspect of things.
Even though I can disagree, I usually battle with the Duelist Kingdom rules of Yu-Gi-Oh! where sacrifice isn’t necessary unless the monster you’re summoning is a fusion monster, where you then need polymerization or a ritual card. Those were the first ever rules according to the RELEASED English-dub of the anime. I shall admit it’s rather easy and most favorable, but nowadays untrue. The basis for dueling is through the Battle City Rules Formation of the TCG where it is required a certain number of sacrifices in order to summon certain levels of Monster Cards.
It’s pretty fair, because by the sacrificing of weaker monsters in order to get stronger ones is like putting simple math into the game: the stars of the sacrifices must be less and then must either add up to be greater-than-or-equal-to the amount of stars your “outcome monster” contains. Fair trade.
That’s the basic monster summoning techniques of the Trading Card Game–TCG–of Yu-Gi-Oh!
